Bio

The Orange County, CA punk band Farside formed in 1989, comprising frontman Popeye, guitarist Kevin Murphy, bassist Brian Chu and drummer Bob Beshear. Farside were formed and maintained at a time when grunge was at it’s peak, but they brought something different to the table. A new kind of post-hardcore that didn’t follow in the footsteps of Shellac and Fugazi. Upon landing a deal with Revelation Records, Farside released their first album “Rochambeau”, in 1992, which has a certain unreplicable bleakness to it. Then 2 years later Farside released, what Revelation Records described as, “Quite possibly the greatest album of all time”. Farside had progressed their sound and released an album which is still seen as legendary 15 years on. The “Farside EP” was then released in 1995, which had some of the most anthemic sounds of their career. Farside then went on hiatus. But deciding that they could not let Farside die there, they reformed and released “The Monroe Doctrine” in 1999. The Monroe Doctrine had a much more varied sound, from hardcore to acoustic ballads. It had much better production than any of their previous work, and a lot of fans took it in as their favourite Farside album. Since Farside have again gone on hiatus, it is unknown if there are any plans for the future.- MySpace
